How about some goals, eh?

When we strive for something we have to have an end goal in sight.  Athletes see the gold medal.  Scientists, the Nobel Prize.  Actors, the Oscar.  Without the obvious goals to be reached, what is the purpose behind the struggle to better ourselves?

Weight loss goals can mean the difference between success and failure.  If we enter the challenge to better ourselves through nutrition and exercise but have no goal set forth, to what purpose is all of this?  What do we gain?  The answer is nothing.  Because we have no reason to pick ourselves up and keep moving forward.

So what are you to do?

Set SMART and ACHIEVABLE goals!

Here are my goals:

1) Lose 60lbs.  I would like to loose 30lbs in the next 3 months.  It is a little strenuous, but I feel it is possible to loose 10lbs a month.

2) Start to strengthen the muscles that I have (and that will come).  I do NOT expect a 6 pack for abs.  But a little toning would be nice!

3) Eat healthier.  No, I am not giving up the fun foods.  But I will make them a treat, not a given.  A reward, if you will, for good behavior.

4) Try on clothes without crying.  No, I am serious, I don't want to look at the racks, go to the dressing room, and cry from depression, embarrassment, and anger.  I will conquer that!

But then, there are goals that are more enticing.  For examples, this is one of my achievable goals:
These are stunning....

Why are these stunning dresses part of my goal?  Why do I have them pictured in my head when I want to quit?  Because of this:
(isn't he sexy in Blues?)

That is my husband when he was a Corporal (he's a Sergeant now).  And that was our first and only USMC ball together in 2009.  If all goes as planned I will either be going to the ball this year (and if not, at least next year) and I, at this moment, wouldn't be able to even get one boob to fit those tops, let alone both.  And my hips? HAHAHA!!  I laugh at the thought...

....BUT....

Those dresses motivate me to keep going.  To get down to a better size and be able to walk proudly into that ballroom with the handsomest man and know I am the arm candy and not the other way around.  May seem like a silly goal, but all those goals I want can be summed up in those dresses.

It is sort of like that Yoplait commercial, the Itsy Bitsy Bikini one.
Ya, that one.  She had the bikini up and she had her goal!

So make goals.  Smart ones, achievable ones, and keep your eye on that goal.  Give yourself the visual you need to keep going!!!!
